More about Michael

Michael started full time at Acadia in 1998 working as an Academic Computing Specialist in the AITT (Acadia Institute for Teaching and Technology). He was the pedagogical leader for a number of technology initiatives that trained teachers in the public schools of Nova Scotia and Maine. He was the organizer and primary instructor for the lunch time sessions on technology and teaching held at the AITT. He was also the manager of the new faculty student support initiative. In 2007 he became the Instructional designer for Open Acadia and in this role supported faculty who were developing courses for online delivery.

Now as part of the Teaching and Learning Centre Michael is once again bringing his expertise to supporting faculty who are teaching face to face. His educational knowledge includes: degrees in Science, Computers, Education and Master of Arts in Theology. His practical teaching experience includes: Private Schools, Public Schools, Community College, Undergraduate and Graduate University courses. He is an engaging instructor and for many years did a very popular presentation during experience Acadia days called “The Perfect Storm”.

Justin has had a passion for computers and technology since a young age. He holds a degree in Network Security from CTI – Computer Training Institute. He has been with Acadia since early 2013. Justin has a varied background in Technical Support and Customer Service – both working, and managing, within a Technical Call Center for five years. He uses this experience and his technical knowledge to provide support for Acadia’s Online Learners and Professors through the Teaching and Learning Center. He also provides support for Course Development and the Acadia Lifelong Learning (ALL) program.

More about Terry

Terry has been working at Acadia since 1989. He started in food services when he was a student and then moved on to run the now defunct Vaughan Library computer lab for two years as a co-op Computer Science student. Since then he has worked for Computing Services, The User Support Centre, the AITT, Technology Services, the Fountain Learning Commons, Technology Services, the Learning Technologies Centre, and now the Teaching & Learning Centre. Somewhere during that time he managed to obtain his Bachelor of Computer Science degree. His duties and expertise lie in technology support and training. Terry is the “front end” support person for Acadia’s learning management systems and specialized learning software. He also does in-class support and training for software that supports the learning and teaching environment.

 

Danielle Pierce (Instructional Designer)

More about Danielle

Danielle joined the team at Open Acadia as an Instructional Designer in 2017. She is an Acadia alumna, having earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with honours in English in 2011, and her Bachelor of Education degree in 2013. Danielle has taught middle and high school for the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board, as well as the Adult Education program for the Hants Learning Network Association. In her role with Open Acadia, Danielle uses instructional theory to create conceptual designs that support Acadia’s teaching faculty, and employs her writing skills to develop high-quality materials for Open Acadia’s online courses. In addition to being passionate about education, Danielle is also a yoga teacher, an avid reader and writer, a serial hobbyist and a self-proclaimed outdoor woman.
